Today's walkabout began with a hearty breakfast at the Happy Donut where I had eggs, links, hash browns, toast, coffee I was fueling up for The Climb.




Half way up to Telegraph Hill from hotel, I turned around to take this photo of a sample of the streets in San Francisco

Made it to Coit and I see statue of Columbus Did not want to go inside the tower although I hear it has beautiful art work. The day was so drop-dead gorgeous that I chose to stay outside as much as possible Just look at the blue sky!

From Telegraph Hill, the views are stunning. Here is the Golden Gate, of course. The hill across from the bridge is where Mr. PZ and I posed in the photo posted earlier.

In 2001 when the four of us vacationed here, we rented bicycles, rode across the bridge to Sausalito, then took the ferry back to Pier 39, the Embarcadero. So that was what I was thinking when I took this photo today. Did I already say how gorgeous the weather is?

I decided to head down to Pier 39 along The Embarcadero. On my way down, I admired the homes I saw lots of bougainvillea. Temps were in the 50s and breezy so it felt colder ... which made for perfect walking weather

And then I hear them! That distinct sound! My heart skipped a beat! I heard the sea lions before I saw them. They were sunning themselves on the pier. They are huge!

And sometimes obnoxious

San Francisco walkabout over

Thanks for sharing the ride and the walks, ja.commers I did not come to SF with flowers in my hair but I am leaving a bit of my heart here so I can come back regularly and claim it

Here are some pictures of my walkabouts last night and this morning. I love walking this city and gazing at its architecture .



This building at Kearny and Columbus that caught my eye . I Googled it and learned that it was the Sentinel Building that Francis Ford Coppola bought to preserve its architecture.

This is on the border of the Italian section of the city. A walk along Columbus Avenue and you'll see old men walking with canes and speaking in Italian, ditto for young men .

Today, being Thanksgiving Day, my sons and I plan to have dinner in this section of town

This morning's walkabout took me all over Russian Hill, Nob Hill, SoMa (South of Market Street) ... I could go on . Again, another hearty breakfast followed by enjoyable walk up and down hills and sweating in 50 F weather under glorious blue skies. Again. It seemed that Someone designed these days for us . Yes, I walked <span style="font-weight: bold">**UP**</span> Lombard (SF's crookedest) Street smelling Thanksgiving dinners being prepped. You can Google pictures of Lombard St. .

Down through Russian Hill and Nob Hill, I was on a sentimental ride through the past with Mr. PZ

On this walkabout, I stumbled upon Sterling Park, a tiny (hilly!) square named after San Francisco's poet, George Sterling (d. 1926) and snapped this plaque in his honor.

It reads:

<span style="font-style: italic"> Tho the dark be cold and blind,
Yet her sea-fog's touch is kind,
And her mightier caress
Is joy and the pain thereof;
And great is thy tenderness,
O cool, grey city of love! </span>




Though I haven't experienced greyness on this trip to my beloved San Francisco, it is my city of love.
