I have a t-shirt saying "Yes We Can", which I wore to the Bassekou Kouyate concert and coming across a Malian, he quoted it, starting the speech, in English! Amazing!
I was saying to Issa, that is historical like MLK, that Obama would be even be quoted in the Sahel!

No I didn't go to Timbuktu, it's a 2 or 3 day journey by boat from Mopti, or a whole day by 4x4, family commitments meant we didn't even get to Mopti and Dogon Country - next time then!

But hoping to go to the Festival of the Desert in Timbuktu next year (mid January), especially as I now have made friends from there...

4x4 - reminds me of some of the people I met who were in the Budapest to Bamako rally (what a way to go! )

I do love the music too, African blues! In fact, I clicked on it and listened again

I bought a CD of his at the concert and it's all live recordings from all over the world (Australia, USA, UK), so he does tour the world, maybe you get lucky and see him live one day!

Which reminds me, AfroCubism are touring Europe this summer (and likely the Americas?), anyway this is their site to watch for upcoming tours!

mud cloth...lovvvvvve it...had some outfits made from some i got while touring...u cannot copy the cloth that comes from the motherland....some people dont realise dat different tribes mean diffrant cloth....Kente is not from allllllllllllll Africans...lovely picture

You are right. Kente is a exclusive to Ghana and it's the one type of cloth the Chinese can't duplicate.

that is rice they are selling, it's grown around the Niger delta.

Was wondering actually, what will happen, Gaddafi has an awful lot of investments in Mali - owns loads of the fancy hotels in Bamako and all that land that was a controversy a while ago (NY Times article)....

Just hope the Malians don't suffer from the fall-out
