Back on the street. We had returned our golf cart and making our way to the water taxi pier for the ride back to Belize City.

Saw this on the side of a shop...



Right across the road from the San Pedro Catholic Church. At least the priest didn't have to go too far to get to work.

As mentioned elsewhere, no tall buildings are on the island...







It had been a fun but exhausting day. Thankfully, the water taxi was on time and with a small passenger load, we were able to sit under the canopy. After some time into ride, CG made herself comfy and went off to sleep.

Cool, thanks! I use a watermarking software to add the initials (could be images as well). There are all kinds, ranging from simple to complex, and a quick look for a free one on the 'net turned up this one. I haven't tried it, but you can play around with it to see if it works for you.

As a relatively small country, with a focus on eco-tourism, the lack of infrastructure make it a "tough" place for the average tourist to visit, especially if one is looking for the resort type of setting. It is said that about sixty percent (60%) of Belize's land mass is forested, with only about twenty percent (20%) of the country's land subject to human uses. About thirty-seven percent (37%) of its land territory falls under some form of official protected status, hence the limit on development. The rain forests, Maya history, and deep sea diving (it has the longest living barrier reef in the western hemisphere and the second longest contiguous reef in the world after Australia), are its major selling points.

Again, not for the 'average' traveler, but fast becoming a hotspot for those seeking eco-tourism and adventure vacation experiences. We really loved it.

CEW - Thank you very much for your trip report on Belize (formerly British Honduras) - it reminds me that I have relatives in Belize (my Aunt Emma Taylor migrated there in the late 40's/early 50's and her children and gand children still lives there). Your comment regarding no tall buildings in Belize makes me smile I remember when JA had no tall buildings. As usual, great report and photographs. One can always rely on you for a fantastic read.

As CG said, this is the only one we have of ourselves, a "self portrait" taken shortly after we had eaten. Trust me, without lunch my disposition wouldn't be so agreeable [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif[/img]



We still had some time to kill before our 3 hours with the cart were up, so we decided to go walking along the beach front.





Because the sea water was just about crystal clear, going out into the glass bottom boat would have been quite an experience, but we didn't go for it.
