West coast of Florida?

Any one living over there? ( I believe that Reggae Lover l lived in Tampa)

A coworker just got a steal of a deal on a house in Port Charlotte. She keeps telling me about houses near hers that are for sale and or rent. The prices are great.

But, i'm seeing things on line about the job market being really rough over there.

Can any one shed light on the situation?

My uncle and his wife retired to port charlotte two years ago. I have been there a few times to spend holidays with them.

There is nothing going on over there. It is a retirement town, you may be able to get a job working in a geriatric clinic. I have met a lot of my Uncle's neighbors, most are retired. Those that are working are doctors, lawyers with second homes, and a real estate agent.

The city/town has some very nice homes, several trailer parks, and some farms.

I wouldn't move there. Not much social life, even my retired Uncle wishes he had more to do. He comes to visit me in Lauderdale about every other month.

Take a ride over there and see if you like it. It only takes about 2 hours to get there. The area is very pretty, there just isn't anything to do. If you want to live life in the burbs, it can work.

We drove through that area a couple of week ends ago.

I'm kinda watching jobs over der so. I think that jobs will be the problem. sure, I could find something but probably not something I would like.

my bestie's parents live over there - they are retired and in their 70's and even <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">THEY</span> </span> say it's boring as Frack (although very pretty). They're bout to move back to the Lauderdale area cause they just bored outta their skulls.....

Funny, I have been seeing interesting jobs over there, though.

u could live there and go drive to ft lauderdale to party &amp; tng.

doan look like a ting is dere.. Ft Myers is boring too-- maybe Naples?

It is a 2 hour drive. Gas is not cheap!

It appears that I will be employed for another school year. So i will hang out here. But, they say next year will be worse for cuts.

If Mr. was done with his HVAC training and the dog could go a yard I would go there. I actually had a shot at a GREAT job in Jamaica.

pros
- cheap real estate
- &quot;newer&quot;, not so congested airport (in Ft Myers)

cons
- chinese drywall
- unpaid accessment fees
- also no jobs
- no entertainment
- high crime rate (in certain parts of lee county)

right now, its the better time to buy there.. living there is another story.

I can not afford to keep up 2 places of residence. If I bought a house there, I would have to live in it.

Funny, (re jobs) I was seeing lots of jobs for me over there.

(so far) I have a job for the 2011 - 2012 school year, so I will stay put.

Just hearing about the $60 k house on deep water in Port Charlotte got me interested. But, the person who bought that house is in a different situation than me. She is a Therapist (mental health / LCSW) and plans to consult on the east and west coast of Florida. One of her daughters will be in college on the west coast of FL. The other in high school over here. Her man lives in the house in Port Charlotte (they bought it together) She got laid off from where I work.

Another coworker (teacher who is also a LCSW) who got cut from my school was looking at the west coast (Cape Coral and Leigh High Acres) as well.

When I went to see my brother and his wife and daughter on vacation in Siesta Key I thought it was beautiful. So I started thinking about it.

But, I used to work with a woman who moved back to Miami from Sarasota. She HATED Sarasota..
