I am not good enough with the computer. Mod/Adm I know is computer talk for something.
TLC is the cooking lady who says 'American sytle cooking' is too expensive.
Most of the time I just read everything so I can learn Jamaican talking and culture from Jamaicans.
If someone harass me, well I am not smart enough to know it, yet.

I guessed Adm=Administration, mod... I had no clue.
After reading the Observer 17% minimum wage increase, I went to a currency converter. A man making $3,200 a week receives 45 U.S. dollars? Is that right?

Compry told me Mod and Admin. I just guessed that coodan means couldn't.
According to my understanding 1 U.S. dollar is equal to 71 Jamaican dollars. So a man earning $3,200 Jamaican dollars a week is making $45 U.S.
Is that right?

No, it's not!....and the saddest thing is that some of the LOWEST wages are being paid by some of the biggest hotel chains! When a person has to travel to get to work, taxi fare must also come out of those wages!

I've been told by a friend, who sells her hand-crafted gift items to some of the big hotel chain gift shops, that she has had to wait up to 3 months to get paid, and then had to BEG to get her $!! Oh yeah, I saw the biggest hotels are owned by foreigners.
Here in Vermont it is ski areas, the money doesn't have a chance to get cold before it is shipped to out of state owners.
Not paid for months! No way! No one is that evil.

Did you know that ALL imported food items attract a 16 1/2% GCT tax?....so, by the time the grocer puts on his profit, the goods end up costing about double what you would pay in the US....this is one reason why most Jamaicans do not purchase these goods.

I, as an American, and running a guesthouse, where cooking is involved, must bite the bullit and PAY for many of these food items to cook "American style" if my guests request it.

I know that all building materials also have this tax.....believe me, it's NOT cheap to live here!!

That American food is 30% for tax and transportation. How come there is no Jamaica peanut butter, no Jamaica potato chips. If the imported products have a 30% penality how can domistic rates not beat their prices easily?

There IS Jamaican peanut butter...maybe even potato chips...at least banana chips and they ARE cheaper....I'm talking about food items that are NOT produced in Jamaica, like most cheeses, yogurt, sour cream, butter, nuts, most crackers, canned tomatoes (not produced there because Jamaicans don't use in cooking), good chocolate, wines, pasta sauce, etc.
