Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller greets Prime Minister of St Kitts & Nevis Denzil Douglas, who, along with officials from UNAIDS, made a courtesy visit at the Office of the Prime Minister on Wednesday. Prime Minister Simpson Miller commended UNAIDS for maintaining the momentum in the fight against HIV/AIDS and its continued support to Jamaica's HIV programme. She says Jamaica has been making significant progress in reducing the rate of transmission from mother-to-child, which now stands at less than five per cent and that an HIV workplace policy is in place to prevent discrimination and stigma. Simpson Miller said that she endorsed the approach by the Caribbean Community in sharing the responsibility and response to the HIV epidemic. "We have to pay special attention to the region. The fight against HIV and AIDS must be a shared responsibility and Jamaica is more than willing to lend its assistance to the region," said the prime minister.
