Sandals Foundation's director of programmes Heidi Clarke (right) presents congratulatory tokens to five Jamaican participants in the organisation's "Care for Kids" Scholarship Programme, who showed marked improvement in their core subject areas for the 2013/2014 academic year. The five, who are among a group of 41 high school students in the Caribbean that benefit from the scholarship programme valued at US$30,000 per year, were also given cash of up to US$200 each (more than J$20,000), in addition to the backpacks. Twenty-four Jamaican students were honoured by the Sandals Foundation during a scholarship ceremony at Beaches Negril on Tuesday, August 5, and later treated to day passes at the Caribbean's leading family resort. Under its education programme the Sandals Foundation has adopted 26 schools in the Caribbean and built two since its inception in 2009. The "Care for Kids" scholarship, which also falls under its educational stewardship, provides over 50 secondary and tertiary students with financial aid annually.
