Minister of Tourism and Entertainment Dr Wykeham McNeill (centre) discusses plans to upgrade the Old Harbour Bay Beach with Member of Parliament for South Western St Catherine Everald Warmington (right) and Mayor of Spanish Town Councillor Norman Scott. Occasion was a tour last Wednesday of Old Harbour Bay and other redevelopment projects in St Catherine, which are being funded by the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF).* An initial upgrade of Old Harbour Bay Beach was underwritten by a $4-million dollar TEF donation through the Tourism Improvement Projects (TIPS) initiative.* A further upgrading of the beach facilities will take place under TEF's Beach Parks programme. This venture will ensure that at least one beach in every parish will be transformed to make quality recreational spaces available to both residents and visitors alike. The beaches will provide facilities such as a children's play area, seating with tables, picnic areas, gazebos, restrooms and changing room facilities, lifeguard towers and the necessary utilities. The initiative is being undertaken in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment, the TEF, the Urban Development Corporation and the National Environment and Planning Agency.
