Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller (second left) hosted a family of New York-based Jamaican philanthropists at Jamaica House last Thursday, August 20, where she expressed gratitude for their support. The family (from left), Dasline, Michael, Kimberly and Nekhidia Harris, created the Harris Family Vision Foundation seven years ago to empower individuals through health and education outreach initiatives. Each August, they visit the island and host back-to-school and health fairs in commentates in Kingston, St Catherine, St Ann and Trelawny. Some 3,000 children benefitted from their assistance last year. In 2012, the Harris Family Vision Foundation donated a clinic in the community of Madras, St Ann.
