The birth defects associated with the Zika virus have prompted several health officials to urge pregnant women to be extremely cautious against mosquito bites. Based on the increasing scientific evidence confirming microcephaly as a potential outcome in infants born to mothers infected with the Zika virus, the Jamaica Government is recommending that women of child-bearing age delay their pregnancy for at least a further six months while we monitor the research findings coming out of affected countries.
