MANY of us would have heard stories of someone travelling on a long flight only to end up spending the rest of their holiday in hospital with a deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Others may have heard of patients who have had an operation and had to stay in bed for a period of time but they ended up with one. The stories are plentiful, varied and very frightening.
