LIME Foundation Chairman Errol K Miller presents a cheque valued at $50,000 to Sherika Nesbeth, a student at the Salvation Army School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, yesterday morning in memory of her former classmate, Xyhir Ince. The money, which will be utilised by the school, was raised from LIME employees shortly after it was publicised late last year that young Xyhir was suffering from a rare type of cancer. Regrettably, Xyhir lost his brave fight shortly after. Yesterday, in the presence of his parents, the LIME Foundation handed over the money that was collected up to when Xyhir died. Miller said that while all who had been aware of Xyhir’s fight for survival were very saddened by his passing, very often good things come from painful situations. He said he believed that this was one of those times, as he was confident that the funds collected would be put to very good use. The administrator for the school, Major Edward Lyons thanked the LIME employees for the contribution and said that the money would be used to purchase badly needed Braillers, the machines used by the blind and visually impaired to write. Xyhir’s father Devon Ince also expressed his gratitude to the Sandals Foundation’s Adam Stewart and Hiedi Clarke for their dedication and assistance in the fight to keep Xyhir alive. The Sandals Foundation had earlier donated US$5,000 which assisted Xyhir to fly to Baltimore, USA, for treatment in November 2011. (Photo: Aston Spaulding)
