Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller and Minister of Finance and Planning DrPeter Phillips (right) listen intently to a point being made by Dr Warren Smith, president of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), during a courtesy call on the prime minister last Friday. They discussed the growth agenda for the country, which Dr Phillips said was the priority of the prime minister, the Cabinet and the Government. Dr Smith said that, as part of the Bank's effort to ensure an alignment with the macro-economic programme, the CDB has provided a Special Allocation Fund of US $33.8 million that is primarily for social development programmes. The prime minister, in expressing her gratitude, shared her plans of developing the rural areas as an avenue of confronting poverty.
