This boy from Little Thinkers Creche at the Jamaica Observer does his part to help Mother Earth by planting a Christmas Palm at the edge of the football field on the company's grounds at Beechwood Avenue yesterday while his playmates await their turn. The children planted trees ahead of today's observance of National Tree Planting Day, celebrated on the first Friday in October each year. The Forestry Department started the initiative in 2003 as a means of restoring the country's tree cover and provides lumber and ornamental seedlings free of cost to Jamaicans for the occasion. Among the species available are cedar, mahogany, neem, Caribbean pine, pink and yellow poui, pride of Barbados, acacia and poor man's orchid.
