Sunday School Memory
Do you have a favorite memory of Sunday School in Jamaica? I remember some of the songs I learned and even laugh at now ... "smile a while and give your face a rest ..."

i suffered sunday school before i was kicked out .. But i hated it..
first off it was so damn boring, and the kalanga wata smell dat deh teacher dem did wear...
and the nonsense bout the nailed god, white christ..
the only ting that i learnt was the ancient ancestor version of the moses story....

I wouldn't call them favrit memories
maybe you should change it to "bad" memories
where do i even begin, and we weren't even uber religious like the people dat did guh chuch all 5 times a week, and have them kids a church way into the dead of night

YOU went to Sunday School? Surprising. One would never know it.
Well I didn't grow up in Jamaica but I do remember the children always used to look like they were having a great time. They were all dressed up in their Sunday best. The girls had ribbons in their hair. None of this "go to church and Sunday School in jeans, cut-offs and flip-flops" like what I dee in Canada. One guy at our church a teen who plays in the band sometimes, always walks around barefoot. I thought it was just something he did on stage.
Anyway, I remember passing a church on East Queen Street when the children were going to a Sunday School rally and wishing I was going too. I must have been about 5 years old at the time. Alas, I don't recall going to Sunday School in Jamaica. We would sit in the service with my parents.Comment

ah the innovative tendency of Jamaicans....
Thankfully i only lasted a year or two at most at sunday school and one church service.....
i remember arguing creation myths ie the calabash and caiman creation as opposed to Genesis myth.....
i asked why i was to beleive ar an not mi granfada taino tales... Sanctimonious worshiper of the nailed god got pregnant a week afta calling me a pagan....and i would go to hell for not accepting ar beleif....the good ting was i beleive i had sex bout 20 years later wid ar daughter....

For some reason, every time mi go Sunday School, mi used to twang.
I don't know why, but as soon as mi cross de gate eena de church yawd, a bere twanging mi puddung...till sunday school ova an mi cross de gate an tep out eena de worl...
