What you say to someone with cancer?

any suggestions for a simple message would be sincerely appreciated.

Had cancer myself and have talked to many going through it. If you are not familiar with the types of cancer, the types of AMA treatments offered, and all the alternatives to the mainstream cancer treatments along with the history of suppressed successful methods, about all one can say is "good luck" or "I love you" and give them a hug. A lot of cancer patients are ignorant of their options. A few are not. For example, I have a friend whose father reversed late stage melanoma by simply taking a tablespoon of baking soda in water every day. It had to do with the body's Ph balance in that case. I also have a friend who went through 4 yrs. of chemo hell for a brain tumor but happened to survive. He was half brain dead from the chemo treatment at the time so he couldn't absorb anything anyone said to him anyway. Each person is different in the way they approach it and the choices they make. My father died of prostate cancer while taking $9000 shots every nine months. I am staying with someone now who has arrested it through dietary means. IMO...there's way too much hype around the word "cancer".
Unfortunately the education process made me somewhat "jaded". On the bright side, my friend with the brain tumor had been a sniper in Vietnam and the horrific cancer ordeal served him as a rebirthing process of sorts. In my case I had spent 15 yrs. as a caregiver while ignoring my own needs, and it brought about an abrupt change in my attitude, One never knows.

I have 2 friends who are battling cancer on and off. I try to stay positive with them. I try to educate my self on the process they will be going through to ask questions as each stage then I go back to being positive and talking about regular things.

i have had a few friends with the big C..After some time in 90 / 91 / 92 in kuwait i was mointored for it but that is a long story..

one friend was a sexy big legged ooman... I went to look for her every monday in hospital over a three month period ... i spent time telling her that i only came to see her big legs and when she swollen up from the steroids and kemo i kept telling her i liked my ooman dem big and she looked sexi and she should wear a bikini... she was on face book and i joined facebook just for her... and i made an excuse to mention bikini once a day....

I cant tell u what to say but i can tell you what not to say...." I know you will beat this thing" ... that is a lie because you dont know.... It was amazing the number of times she was asked "how are u feeling ?"..it began to drain her.... Dont lie...dont give platitudes....

the thing she missed the most was her children they could not visit her for long periods because her immune system was compromised..

So something of the order of : I believe you will beat this thing, I believe you have the best medical skills available to help you.. I will be thinking of you at night when i am awake and alone...so when u have a moment of doubt call me....you will be scared, Your family will be scared your family will be frustrated and they may not listen.. but i promise to listen.... I am sad and i fighting my emotions, that is because i care... to care is to be concern....Being scared is not weakness, being scared is human, now is the moment of greatest humanity when we face fear..Focus on you not on others... So when the demons come and they will come and you are weakest call me and i will listen...

that may be brutal and direct but it is what i believe when facing death..acknowledge fear....dont lie about bravery and other such things or offer false hope...
