Subject: U of Penn Black Male Grad Prep Academy

The University of Pennsylvania is launching an 18-month Academy focused on preparing Black males for admission to Ph.D. programs in education immediately upon completion of their undergraduate studies.

They will begin the Academy this fall with 10 Black males who are in their junior year of college.

Each Academy participant will receiv e a 4-day all-expense paid visit to Philadelphia this fall; opportunities for meaningful engagement with the dean, faculty, graduate students, and Black male alumni; free enrollment in a 3-month Kaplan GRE Prep Course (for which Penn is paying $1,200 per participant) ; a current Black male Ph.D. student who will
mentor him through the application process; and an application fee waiver when he applies for Fall 2011 admission to Penn (valued at $85).
Most importantly, those who are admitted to our Ph.D. Programs two years from now will be fully funded for their entire 3-4 years of doctoral study.

Please forward this information to Black male undergraduates you know and encourage them to submit applications by August 21st. The Academy is only for Black men who are starting their junior year this fall and planning to graduate in Spring 2011.

Orchard Valley Waldorf School is seeking applicants for the position of Music teacher for grades three through eight. This part-time position involves teaching 11 classes/week and participating in the non-teaching work as a member of the OVWS faculty. We invite experienced teachers to apply.



The Orchard Valley Waldorf School is the fruit of a unified effort to provide Waldorf Education in Central Vermont. We have been blessed by the hard work and generosity of many individuals within and beyond the school community. We have a permanent home set on 55 acres of beautiful, rolling hills, river valley lands, brooks and apple orchards. The eastern view is awe inspiring and a constant source of wonder as we come together each day.



The Board of Trustees, College, faculty, parent council and administration are committed to sharing in the creative process of growing this school. Weekly faculty/staff meeting consists of sharing classroom experiences, building collegial support, study and artistic work. We are supportive of each other and enjoy conversation about our lives and how we can help each other grow as teachers. Both peer mentoring and outside evaluation processes are in place. Our early education programs include two kindergartens, one nursery and a parent-child Morning Garden. We offer handwork, French, movement, music, blocks of eurythmy and Earth crafts as special subject for students in the grades. The first grade has an afternoon teacher two days weekly.



The school is located eight miles northeast of Montpelier in Central Vermont. Montpelier, the capitol city of Vermont, and the surrounding towns and communities, offer an eclectic mix of cultural, social and community events. Outdoor recreational activities are abundant. The area offers a wonderful environment to raise a family and simplify one’s life.



We seek teachers with Waldorf training or equivalent experience. The ability to work harmoniously through openness and a commitment to building inner strength, through the living practice of anthroposophy are qualities we seek in our growing faculty.
