just watched Don Lemon's episode…cried …always cry wen i see the coast n the now museum wich was the site where some of my ancestors were 'housed' before that infamous cruise…..every black person should make that pilgrimage in their lifetime

I loved his message at the very end. "Why wouldn't i want to do my very best to honour those people" (his ancestors that walked through the door of no return)?

I did not realize that they held a repatriation of sorts for the bodies of two ex slaves, one from America and one from Jamaica, they were carried back through the door of no return to symbolize an end to the slave trade.

for the reason many of us go there …..the launching point not to mention the borders n nations r artificial creations…..the region is the important thing….the region absent the divisions created by the interlopers…fi real wahalla….

There were slave ports all along the western coast of Africa.. At Calabar in Nigeria for instance...from where John Jea a early African American without and poet originated....

I am curious why that gate of no return in Ghana.....the same one that Barry Obama went to......

What was mentioned was a specific geographic origin and they went to another location..thus diverting the specificity of origin..a European american from spainl would not be taken to a location in greeece ...which is the approximate distance from Elmira where Don Lemon went is distance from Nigeria Cameroon...Congo...

I also wonder a bout why pull that particular thread blood line..there were other African ancestors...?????¿?

II confess I am not curious about my ancestry...

and I thought Don Lemons film should be shown as a learning aid...it is curious as to the death of his great grand father and the fact he provided for his child....

The guide was very good and humanised the tale..feaces,urine, blood,vomit,bodies in the dust of the floor...another way to look at it..Jesus is taken as a saviour for a mere three days on the cross...but three months in a over crowded bacaroon? Ancestors were greater saviours....

I also think Don got what Bob was singing when he said "were the survivors, the black surviours' on the Survival Album...

(CNN) -- Michaela: Growing up in our house there was no way to get around the topic of adoption. All five of the kids in my family, all girls, are adopted. One look at us, and you knew this was a different kind of family.
As the story goes, Mom and Dad were a young couple about four years into their marriage when they decided to start a family. Dad was working at the time for the YMCA, Mom was a primary school teacher. They adopted their first child, Darlene, when she was 4 years old. Not long after, they received a call about an infant who needed placement: Me. It was the four of us for a few years until Sheila, age 6, arrived. Laurie and Mary-Lou, biological sisters (10 and 7 respectively) joined our family several years later.

It was, I suppose, an unusual family to grow up in, in the respect that we didn't look like most families on the prairies of Canada. We are a multicultural family; my parents are Caucasian, my sisters are First Nations and then there is me. I grew up knowing that I was biracial and that on my paternal side, I was Jamaican. I don't believe my parents set out to create such a racially diverse family. I believe truly that my folks saw a need and helped where they could.
