Free education in the US coming to an end?

What should be paid for by government and/or school districts and what should be paid for by parents/families of students?

When my children were in elementary school the PTA raised funds to pay for activity busses to take kids home after extra-curricular activities.

We all pay for public school through our taxes. In many school districts that is not enough. I would find a way to pay for my children's fees even though it would be a struggle. And I would find a way to mobilize my kids' school community to find a solution to the problem. I guess I am saying 'the government' is not the only solution.

Nope, couldn't be. Certainly not these days. Seems to me, though, that there are certain things that are a responsibility of government, or else, what the hell is it for? The responsibility is shared by society at large, as the whole of society benefits by educating its people. Pay for it up front or it will be much more expensive in the end. :shrug:

The US is always crying about how they have to recruit science and technology students and professionals from abroad. So how does disinvesting in the educational system address that issue? I swear, Yankees have no sense whatsoever.
