10 finals on as Western Champs begins

BOGUE, St James -- Ten finals will be contested on today's Boys' Eliminations of the County of Cornwall Athletics Association Digicel/Hanover Co-Op Credit Union Western Championships at Herbert Morrison Technical in Bogue, St James.
Thirty-one schools with 853 athletes, including new comers Aberdeen High of St Elizabeth are down to take part in the three-day event that is spread over the week. The girls' eliminations will take place on Thursday at Treasure Beach Sports Complex in St Elizabeth and the finals on Saturday at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
Munro College and St Elizabeth Technical girls are the defending champions.
Today, the final of one track event will be contested, the 3,000m open while all three shot put finals, three of four long jump and high jump finals will also be contested.
The three discus throw finals as well as the javelin open will also be contested on Saturday at Herbert Morrison Technical which is adjoining the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
Additionally, today there will be the first rounds and semi-finals where necessary of the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m, 5,000m, as well as the relays, will also be contested.
