For several years there has been complaints that Jamaica's carnival season continues to be priced out of the reach of the masses, regular people who simply cannot afford to be a part of the festivities.
Such developments have irked many of those who were instrumental in bringing the Trinidadian culture to the island. At the fore front was the late musician and band leader Byron Lee who made sure that everyone across the island could experience it for free including reasonably priced costumes and island wide fetes starring some of the genres biggest stars.

It took some persuasion from the police to get the headliner back on stage at a well-attended staging of Bacchanal J'Ouvert held at Mas Camp. An hour into her high-energy set when her requests for the removal of the guard rails weren't met she bolted from the stage.
"Move the fence. I'm not performing if the fence doesn't come down," said Destra, as she sat on the steps leading onto the stage.
"The fence move yet?" and the crowd yelled in unison, "Nooooo!" The fence she referred to were the guard rails separating the VIP and general patrons.
