Hello Good Night......LOLOL

Every time I hear an older Jamaican say "Hello Good Night" when they answer the phone I want to burst out laughing. How come two greeting are used.

Now I expect it from older Jamaicans. The other day a man in his 40s asked me to call him as he needed some information for his wife. I was quite surprised to hear him say "Hello Good Night". A tad old fashioned. Spoke with him for a while and then he put his wife on the phone and she said ....you got it.... "Hello Good Night".

So give me the lowdown on this Jamaican style greeting.

Do you really Xavier? I am used to hearing it from older Jamaicans and always surprised to hear it from younger people. I would love to hear where it comes from.

I have never heard "Hello Good Morning" or "Hello Good Afternoon".

My grandfather used to answer the phone with "Yes! We talking"
