In my mind he was indeed the greatest athlete of the 20th century. He was WAY ahead of his time in so many ways and on so many levels.
He brought the sport of boxing to life. He was probably the first athlete to use the media to build his brand. He developed the skill of defeating fighters both physically and mentally. He took a stand against the war in Viet Nam which cost him his income, someone else may have crumbled but he overcame that and triumphed. Then there was the work he did for charities.
A life worthy of respect!

Sad but not quite unexpected. Since the announcement. Watching a few tapes of his life and times in which he lived in really brought home the significant impact he had on generations of the us of that era.Comment
