Name the Teacher(s) That Most Inspired You

I have several, but for starters I will go with Ms Cordasco, my 10th grade math teacher.

To this day, Geometry is my favorite maths. She made it (at least for me) fun, interesting and showed me how to use Geometry in everyday life. Because of her, throughout my academic career, I sought out math courses as electives. And now me end u a do financial reporting....

Big ups to you Ms Cordasco.

Mrs. Rita Symes (her name at the time) who told me in a 3rd form Geography class, "you have a great analytical mind" which completely blew me away. She inspired me to look at things and observe patterns in landscape, cultures, then try to figure out why those things are the way they are .. then appreciate their value to our lives. I'll never forget her

College history professor. Her enthusiasm gave me an appreciation for history. Always thought of the subject as a necessary evil till I met her.

Mrs Brill was the first to tell me that I must write, &quot;as writers have something to say and you ILP have something to share with the world.&quot;

Mr. Becher was my Government teacher. He said on the 1st day of class that &quot;Smart people know that politics is local.&quot; I got an A in that class, I also know my local politrixxers &amp; how dem deal very well.

Cheryl Miller, PhD busted my arse in a public policy class...but she did it because &quot;Perseverance picks up when your talent and your will fails you.&quot;

Mr. G. Becker still communicates with me. He wrote, &quot;Your voice is amazing. I hope that you never allow it to be silenced,&quot; on my final short story collection. The following summer we both ran into each other in Assisi, Italy.

Then their was Alonzo... that's what I called him. Mi neva get fi stay inna im literature class though... it did kinna conflict wid di roosking wi was engaged in during his office hours

Mrs. Williams - Christiana Leased Primary - 5th Grade
Helped me pass Common Entrance in grade 5. Only three of us escaped de lashes from 6th grade teacher Mrs. Lewis. After looking under my first 3 choices, (Knox, Chesta and DC College) mi give up until a teacher bawl out mi name, &quot;PeeeDeeeBeee you paaaass!!&quot; Was de last name in de last school (William Knibb).

Mrs. Graham - Spanish Teacher - Knox High
She always called my name with the Spanish pronunciation. When I asked her why she always did that she said, &quot;well it means Lion and you're a strong brave and bright student.&quot; Let the blushing begin. I actually wanted to become a Spanish professor to ratfoot!

Professor Sarah Sarai - Creative Writing - BMCC
This woman was the sweetest. Encouraged me to think deeper and put my thoughts on paper. She loved my humor and admired the lessons I'd learned in life.

Professor Anderson (pianist) - BMCC
This man was blind but could play the ivory off a dem keys. I was to sing the National Anthem at the Garden for BMCC graduation - and was nervous like......He asked me if I was nervous and I went to tell him how nervous I was and all that came with it. Knowing full well that I'd practice he asked me if I did, I told him yes. He said, &quot;well then, you go out there and do your thing. You got it. I know you got it, and you know you got it. So what's the big deal. I'll be ready. You just be ready.&quot; When it was all over he said, &quot;Did you hear that ovation you got? I know you took a bow....right?&quot;....me?....bow?? No sah.

this thread made me reach out to her kids on facebook last night - hadn't communicated with them in . . . well decades

she died in 2004 - they were glad to hear what an inspiration she had been to me

ETA: mrs guettel was the first woman liber i met - she made me stand up to my smartness - i was at her house every day - through high school

Brings back a lot of memories bout mi teachers fram I was a wee tot in Infant School. The nuns stood out, and a very many others who saw my ability, kept giving positive reinforcement all the way.

I never failed any exam I sat, and dem always mek mi know how dem proud a mi...

Big up an nuff respeck to them...naah call noh name.

My first grade teacher who saw how bored I was and recommended that I go to fourth

My sister in law of my eldest brother for recognizin that was too big a jump and sent me to third instead

Mrs M who emphasized the need for us to sound out the endings of our words.
