One of my favorite memories is of my grandmother. When I was in high school and she was visiting I used to pretend that I could not iron my uniform just to get her to show me how and eventually take over the whole batch. Of course I had to succumb to the &quot;young gyal nuh know how fi do nutten nowadays&quot; speech.

If yuh talking about childhood memories. Mine by far is my Appearance on Ring Ding and it being the first time mi a meet Ms Lou. I messed up bad bad bad on the show seka star struck and nerves.. Mi did do wan poem pan di show and during rehearsals it was OK. Yuh havi practice camera angle a di bit.

But when di taping start mi do something completely different and fi bout 20 seconds mi was outta di camera shot. When mi go home mi people dem noh stap laff afta mi how all dem si is black screen and tink sey di TV did kunk out.

Oh Well .. mi did havi laugh but nerves did a kill mi baxide dat day. That is one of mi fondest memories as a child

The home we had in the Barbican road area was my fondest childhood memories. That yard was an haven for an adventurous child. We had the biggest yard filled with Number 11 and blackie mango trees, about 4 apple trees, 2 big pear (avocado) trees, lime and orange trees. Plus my mother had a huge vegetable garden (pumpkin, yam, peppers, gungo peas). Loved that yard so much when we moved from there---a neva stop bawl dung di place. Imagine as a child and being wrenched from your own secret little garden filled with mystery and adventure. Great memories.

The Drive-in Theatre

Way back – in the olden days of my childhood – before cable or satellite TV, VHS video or DVDs, every Friday was family night at the drive-in theatre. Mom would pack snacks and beverages. We four girls would don our pjs, grab blankets and pillows and pile into the back of our Country Squire station wagon--its backseat laid flat to resemble a big bed.

Arriving before 7pm (the early bird special $5/carload), we were often among the first and had our pick of the best viewing locations. But inevitably, Dad would park next to the concession stands – and the bathrooms. The father of four girls, experience has taught him well…

As soon as the car was in park, we girls would race each other to the playground setup in front of the big screen. Looking back now, it was a collection of dangerous contraptions set atop gravel. But, we didn’t care. We played with jarts and rode the incredibly hazardous Crazy Wheel – what’s a little gravel on the knees?

Although, by the time it got dark – nearly 3 hours later – we were tired. Lying down in the back of the car, our four heads peeping over the front seat, we watched the movie and pigged out on snacks and soda. However, the sugar buzz never helped. We were all fast asleep before the end of the first film. In fact, it wasn’t until I was a teenager that I realized they even showed TWO movies at the drive-in.
