What could be the reason...racism or juss a 'doan kya" attitude by the government?

...all mi know seh is a disgrace for this to happen in "America" when billions are being sent overseas to help others in distress...what about "charity begins at home?"

Mi saawt a surprised fi si di President pan di tele a sing di praises of the improvements made...but...there are quite a lot of folks in the 9th Ward who still have not and canNOT return home...if Obama knows what's good for him, he frees up some dollars...[ala FEMA] so that these people can rebuild and go on with their lives.

It is embarrassing that 5 years later in &quot;America&quot; racism is still at the core of how some citizens are treated, even in disasters such as Katrina; and New Orleans is such a gruesome reminder not only of the devastation but the fact that New Orleans was divided along racial lines and still is...

Mi glad dem held symbolic mock funeral for &quot;Katrina&quot; with music and all...they need to move on with their lives...but the voice of that black woman saying &quot;we're Americans&quot; will forever resonate the cruel irony that they were treated worse than 2nd class citizens in their &quot;own&quot; country, during the disaster.

btw...some are saying that the levees are good enuff now, while one engineer said no such thing, they are fooling themselves...I guess if another hurricane should threaten they will evacuate the whole State before there is a 'repeat' of this disaster...of course, one can bet who would be evacuated first.

Billions and billions of dollars sent halfway around the world to bomb innocent Iraqi women and children without proof that any WMDs existed, while Americas inside their own country are abandoned and left to fend for themselves when the levees (built by the federal government) crumble.

Any credibility the United States had left to lecture other nations about &quot;human rights&quot; evaporated right then and there. Along with leaving the country in a state of economic depression this would become the biggest legacy of the Bush administration IMHO.

The truth hurts, but it is still the truth....nobody could disagree with you here with the exception that &quot;America&quot; had NO credibility ever, to lecture any other country on &quot;Human Rights&quot; when it was perceived by many within and outside it's borders as the chief violator.

Now, if Obama wants to improve his credibility he should capitalise on this and make the ppl who suffered and are still suffering, whole.

[Now} Mr Obama has pledged BILLIONS for the school system in New Orleans...what took him so long?

...and work is still going on on the levees...guess that piece I mentioned above was bad reporting by the media.

So true Milo

The images were very haunting. I could not believe this was happening in the US. One reporter said he went out to get supplies for the hungry and near dying and on his way back, national guardsmen told him not to go to the Dome because it is too dangerous. That tells you a lot. It was about the color of the people in that Dome and it just amplifies the fact that the delay in aid and recue was deliberate.

Katrina will be a big ugly stain in American history.
