PRIME Minister Bruce Golding says the recommendations for the appointment of a new attorney general could be sent to Governor General Sir Patrick Allen as early as next week, following the decision to separate the position from that of justice minister.

Minister responsible for information, Daryl Vaz told journalists at yesterday's post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House in Kingston that Solicitor General Douglas Leys will carry out the duties of the attorney general until a replacement is named.

&quot;It is not something we are comfortable with, but based on the fact that the prime minister has decided to separate the function of the minister of justice and attorney general, again coming on the heels of recommendations (of the commission), it is something we are moving swiftly to deal with, but it does need a level of consultation in terms of making sure the person selected is the best suited person without any political bias or affiliation,&quot; Vaz said.

Meanwhile, Vaz, responding to journalists questions about the new look Cabinet, said &quot;the prime minister has to play the hand he has been dealt.
