Here we had a really terrifying lightning storm just a few weeks ago. It went on for 30 minutes solid, crashing and banging all around us. My helper said she saw lightning inside the house - and I believed her because after the lights went out, I saw a light bulb flash when a thunderclap happened.

It turns out nothing in the house was grounded and an electrician friend said we were lucky to be alive. So I hired him and another friend to install a new grounding system all over the house. My Landlord should have done it, but he never agrees to spend even a penny on maintenance, cho!


A bit like closing the barn door after the horse has run away, I guess, - but now I don't feel as vulnerable living in this house as I did before.
It was a real death trap!

I have 2 family members who were struck by lightning and both survived.

mi uncle was standing in the doorway of him house and the lightening lick him right in him chest. He was wearing a silver medallion (coin size) ting and it melted into him chest. Knock him unconscious an dem did tink him did dead, but him did wake after a few mins.

Mi Cousin, they were bathing her in a zinc tub on the porch (before mi bawn) an lightning lik di tub an shi get 3rd degree burns on her leg. walk wid a limp to this day.

Your uncle must be traumatized. I know he must always head inside now when thunderstorms come and probably pull off his jewelry .

Yup, he survived that, but unfortunately his love of the bottle proved too much and led to his eventual demise.

Lightning is no joke. One year it came inside two separate houses I was living in so needless to say I wondered it it was following me.

The first house, it struck the garage roof right where the power came into the house. The result of that, was the surge went through the wires into the house roof, and down all the wiring and singed insulation in that end of the house.

I was in my bedroom and could see the living room/kitchen, and fireballs shot out of every outlet in the house and made a noise like someone set off a shotgun inside. The phone wires were melted into the basement, and when the phone company came out they checked halfway down my 1,000 foot driveway and the wires were melted that far so they had to replace them all the way.

When the fire dept left, they told me a fire could start for some days afterward, so to watch careful. I didn't sleep very well at night for a week!

Next strike was in my log cabin on a lake. I had just finished hand pumping water in my kitchen when lightning struck across the road into the ground and hit water underground. Lightning shot out of my pump across my kitchen before I could even turn around (close call for me).

Needless to say, I do not take showers, do dishes, or run water at all during storms.

I also unplug all computers, TV's stereo's and my glass equipment when the storms come. The phone no matter anymore I don't think since it is a cell, but I pretty much hunker down when there is a storm and just wait for it to end, I doan love them at all!
