Need help for my termpaper !

Hey there !

My name is Manuel, I am a student of English, studying in Germany and I am writing a termpaper in linguistics, analyzing a text in respect of patois language features. Therefore I am writing down spoken parts from the patois bible (since the written version isn't published yet) in order to analyze them afterwards. I think it is an interesting topic and I really enjoy learning about it, but there are some phrases which give me a pretty hard time understanding.
So I wanted to ask if you as native speakers might wanna help me out there a little bit I would really appreciate it !

Especially the part whith the ox falling in a well I found hard to understand.

When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table, he told them this parable:

actually my prof suggested it and I thought it would be more interesting to deal with than just some random text ;-)
