There is hardly a place on earth that remains the same as the one where you lived as a child. Some places are better, some places are worse.

Most of the people I encounter when I'm in Kingston are good people - friendly, easy to laugh and quick with a joke. You just have to show all people respect - from the lady who hands out your parking pass to the yute dat a try wash yuh windsheel, etc.

But the entrenched criminality that exits in Jamaica is a larger issue.

In reading the story it is sad because the couple did have access to water, and the NWC allowed the water to be cut off and now it has been four months the man has to walk to some standpipe far away to get water.

NWC made many mistakes in handling the issue of the pipe running along the land. They should have bought the strip or properly rerouted the pipe to guarantee all had access to the same if not better level of water.



As for the mannerisms of the people now, that is a global thing not just in Jamaica.

The sad thing is that there could be an entire industry centered around meeting the needs of returning residents, especially those in their golden years. But the constant threat of crime and the lack of basic services makes it difficult.

My dream was to return to retire, then it was reduced to just go each year for a three month stay, then it was to just vacation in JA once in a while, now, not really even feeling the need to go back unless it is for a family wedding or funeral.

I still have immediate family in JA and it really sad to hear stories of corruption. As usual, is the hard working people getting hit.
