Markham man charged with human trafficking

A 22-year-old Markham man was arrested in connection with a months-long investigation Thursday.


A 22-year-oldMarkham man has been arrested in connection with a human trafficking investigation in York Region.The investigation began in March, after a victim came to police looking to get out of the sex trade.

Adrian Van Rossum faces eight charges including trafficking persons, material benefit, robbery and forcible confinement. He was arrested on May 29.

York Regional Police believes there may be other victims.

Van Rossum is due to appear in court in Newmarket June 12.

Well he is innocent until proven guilty but....man I find this hard to wrap my head around it. Of course no details are provided so I am not sure if they are talking about pimping, kidnapping or what. How does someone so young even get involved in a something like that?

This may just be the first time he got caught. He could have been committing crimes from he was a youth. Sometimes parents lead kids into the lifestyle, or he could just be a psychopath, hanging with the wrong crowd, and some people simply get a thrill from doing wrong. So many possibilities......

I remember going to school with a guy who was a disaster from grade 8. He was always getting kicked out of class. He played trumpet and he was a good dancer so he was even a dancer on TV for a while. Years later I ran into someone who said he had gotten heavily into drugs and ended up marrying a very pretty girl from school and pimping her to pay for his habit. I wasn't surprised. I am not sure what his story was but he was out of control from very early.


Well we will see how this story unfolds. Markham is less than 5 minutes away from me so this is right in my backyard.

It will be in the local newspapers when it goes to trial. Court this week will just be to take a plea and set a trial date.

police have been laying a spate of human trafficking charges..i think it might be in response to the overturn of the prostitution law the other day.

We'll see. I would be very surprised if the Markham and other York Region papers didn't carry it. Time will tell.
