I was watching MSNBC earlier, here are a few of the early tidbits.


<ul style="list-style-type: disc">[*]McCain's #'s started dropping right after the Couric interview, which Palin refused to take prep lessons for. Like how she know everything, I can see why she refused.[/list]

Cameron relates how McCain aides were terrified of Palin's lack of knowledge of international, national, and even basic civic issues. Cameron reports that Palin was unfamiliar with the concept of &quot;American exceptionalism,&quot; and that not only did she not understand that Africa was a continent rather than a single country but also that during debate prep Palin was unable to name all the nations in North America.

Palin was apparently a nightmare for her campaign staff to deal with. She refused preparation help for her interview with Katie Couric and then blamed her staff, specifically Nicole Wallace, when the interview was rightly panned as a disaster. After the Couric interview, Palin turned nasty with her staff and began to accuse them of mishandling her. Palin would view press clippings of herself in the morning and throw &quot;tantrums&quot; over the negative coverage. There were times when she would be so nasty and angry that her staff was reduced to tears.

Cameron also reports, along with CNN, that McCain's senior foreign policy adviser was fired a week before the election for attacking, in defense of Sarah Palin, various McCain aides who he felt

From Newsweek's Special Election Project comes the real Sarah Palin. She met staff members in a towel:

At the GOP convention in St. Paul, Palin was completely unfazed by the boys' club fraternity she had just joined. One night, Steve Schmidt and Mark Salter went to her hotel room to brief her. After a minute, Palin sailed into the room wearing nothing but a towel, with another on her wet hair. She told them to chat with her laconic husband, Todd. &quot;I'll be just a minute,&quot; she said.
She raised William Ayers before the campaign signed off on it:

Palin launched her attack on Obama's association with William Ayers, the former Weather Underground bomber, before the campaign had finalized a plan to raise the issue. McCain's advisers were working on a strategy that they hoped to unveil the following week, but McCain had not signed off on it, and top adviser Mark Salter was resisting.
And she spent far more on clothes than was reported:

NEWSWEEK has also learned that Palin's shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain's top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy. One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice presidential nominee began buying for herself and her family--clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill. Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards. The McCain campaign found out last week when the aides sought reimbursement. One aide estimated that she spent &quot;tens of thousands&quot; more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as &quot;Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast,&quot; and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books.
Finally, Steve Schmidt (who reportedly picked Palin as VP) would not let her speak on election night.

McCain himself rarely spoke to Palin during the campaign, and aides kept him in the dark about the details of her spending on clothes because they were sure he would be offended. Palin asked to speak along with McCain at his Arizona concession speech Tuesday night, but campaign strategist Steve Schmidt vetoed the request.

Kia, I agree with u completely . There was something shady about there choice. Afterall, had &quot;You betcha&quot; wanted to win the Clinton votes, there was another republican female candidate that was more qualified and more experienced than Gov. Palin. Instead, he went with Palin without the partying vetting her. She was a complete surprise on all fronts. That made me wonder a great deal... which is why I'm still anxious for Obama, for I still feel that something isn't right. I think &quot;You betcha&quot; <span style="font-style: italic">wanted</span> to pull out, <span style="font-style: italic">wanted</span> to lose because he was stymied by what he both saw and <span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">knew</span></span>... I'm rejoicing for the victory, but Lord knows I'm wary regarding the outcome of the election...

I'm also wondering what other national calamity the current governing body will engage itself in prior to handing over the reins to Obama in January. In Iraq, prior to doing this, they drained the country's treasury of billions of dollar, failed to build or establish infrastructure as promised, brought the country's healthcare system to a complete standstill (or rather, reversed the healthcare system in the country when the system was one of the best within that region), and did a host of other things literally 1-2 weeks before handing over power - and it was all done on PURPOSE for they unwittingly left a paper trail. I'm wondering if they won't do the same with Obama, even though things are already at an all time low in the country...

Yep, Palin was indeed a dubious choice that made me question &quot;You betcha's&quot; sincerity in desiring to win this election...
