Conspiracy theorists of the world unite!
The head of the masonic fraterity in North America did come out to say that Obama was not a mason, and never was.
The thing is, people who join masonic societies are no longer ashamed/afraid to have it known. Freemasonry cannot even be considered a 'secret society' any more. The negative connotations associated with masonry are long gone, except in right-wing circles. The "Obama is a freemason" thing was just to scare conservative christians, whom it seemed Obama had began to make in-roads with, according to polls. Obama did better among conservative christians than Gore and Kerry.
Obama is, however, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a respected think-tank which includes anybody who is anybody. The alleged nefarious agenda of the CFR is largely discredited. It's members are well known and published on their website. It's deliberations are open to the public, and the reseach they conduct is published. This is hardly the workings of a secret society.
What Brown is saying is that the era of unregulated, unfettered capitalism is over.
