During the campaign I was on her email list I just got this.... anyone hear of the violence???? She wrote this letter to send to the Governor.....
.......if you hear of other campuses or people being victimized let us know so we can jump on it right away. Don't' forget our outreach, send to everyone on your list and ask them to do the same and they do the same and we will have covered the globe as we have done in our efforts to get Obama elected!
To get all their names and addresses: first get the name and mailing address of the governor. Then go to Members of Congress from (whatever State) you may have to do a little research, but it's worth it if we can prevent violence and death to our students or anyone because of racial hatred. It's a small price for us to pay to help keep people SAFE!
MISSISSIPPI:
Governor Haley Barbour
Governor of the State of Mississippi
Jackson, Mississippi
Dear Governor:
I am writing to you as a descendant of a mother who was a product of the State of Mississippi. I am also writing as a concerned citizen of the United States of America of African descent.
It has come to my attention that since the advent of Senator Barack Obama becoming the President-Elect of the United States of America, there have been some racially motivated acts of hatred directed toward and perpetrated upon citizens of African descent. This is unconscionable and intolerable. Intervention is called for at this most crucial time of our history.
I am prevailing upon you as Governor of the State to intercede and nip this type of behavior in the bud before it escalates and we are fighting the Civil War all over again. I know from history the hatred that has been taught in the homes of too many Mississippians toward members of the Black race. This deeply ingrained and entrenched behavior cannot be tolerated. In addition to the fact that this type of persecution is unfair, illegal and painful, it is not the picture that we want displayed as the whole world is watching as we make this historic transition. On the surface, it appears that America is maturing and beginning for the first time in the Country’s history, to try to live up to the promise of the Founding Fathers. Simmering beneath the surface are vestiges of meanness, spite and hatred which has been somewhat dormant for years, but the election of the first President of the United States of African descent has caused these destructive emotions to resurface.
It is not only a blemish on the State of Mississippi and your ability to govern; but, it is also damaging to the reputation of the United States of America on the world stage. Countries in turmoil are looking to the U. S. for leadership and the smooth transition of power without strife and blood shed, as it is in so many countries where Democracy is not practiced.
We are shedding American blood in Iraq to insure and guarantee that the Iraqi people are free to pursue a Democratic form of governance. It is futile and hypocritical to pay the enormous price we are paying both in finance and human sacrifice to insure Iraqi Freedom when we do not guarantee that to our own tax paying citizens here at home in any state. Right now, my concern is for the citizens of Mississippi.
Remember President Eisenhower had to send for the National Guard during the disgraceful, deleterious and lawless days of early integration to maintain peace and to preserve law and order; perhaps it is now time for you to consider doing the same.
You are obligated as the Governor of the State to guarantee peace, tranquility and freedom for the citizens of your State.
If , I, as an individual can be of any assistance in contacting the Justice Department, the FBI or any governmental agency charged with safeguarding the health, welfare and safety of the citizens of Mississippi, as well as the totality of the United States of America, please do not hesitate to contact me as follows:
