Two very simple reasons:

#1 China demand is down

#2 Oil is commodity trade just like metals, but it also a contributor to bottom lime cost, if the cost of oil kept rising the top economies would inflate and cost would rise sharply. Therefore there is a concentrated effort to trade the price of oil down despite OPEC's effort.

When ile went to $147 a barrel we were paying 1.40<span style="font-style: italic">ish</span>/L
when it was 89 a barrel we were still paying over a dollar a litre.
It is now 50 odd dollars a barrel and we are paying 83 cents a litre.
This a nuh nuttin fi get excited bout when dem still a screw wi to no blasted end

hmmmm bout 45 days ago it was 4.07 per gallon for reg unleaded.
Yes, my pocket is celebrating.

I dont have any control over the prices, nor can I explain the drop in oil, sooooooo in the meantime I am going to celebrate.

Two thoughts...

First is that oil may eventually settle at around $40 - $50 a barrel which will make for cheap gas for everyone. Trouble is if jobs are scarce then it won't matter because many people won't be able to buy gas anyway. I always remember my Grandad telling me how low the price of things were during the great depression but it really didn't matter because folks didn't have the money to buy much at all.

Secondly, that spike in oil prices we saw last summer was just a taste of what is to eventually come when there really is an end to cheap oil.

The price per barrel will not go to the $20s but will go back to $70s+Speculation maybe in 24 months as you said. That my long view. Speculators were adding $20, then $40, then $60 to the price of each Barrel therefore in the ordinary run of things when China, the USA, India, Brazil and Europe is clicking ordinary demand should move the price to about $70, then you can tack on the extras for the Speculators.

the price went down as soon as bush came out of office, because he was building his retirement on it. that is why oil is going down, hello people
