Joe Biden is well known for his shoot from the hip do as he wants attitude, it was more scary to put Joe up as VEEP than it would be to offer Hill the Job as SoS.

The other thing the SoS is hired and can be fired, would Senator Clinton want to add that to her resume? I think if he is offering her the SoS it is for the positive benefits of interfacing with World Leaders on behalf of a President Obama <span style="font-style: italic">(who is unlikely to be traveling too often giving what is taking place in the USA)</span> to help rebuild the reputation of the USA.
She is a proven commodity that is already in the market.

I think it was a great mistake and the fact that when the race tightened and it looked like Franken over Coleman all it needed was that extra push and I think it should have been Barack not Hillary who should have gone there.

In fact I was shocked to learn that in the last couple of weeks when internal polling was showing that Democratic Party Nominee was going to pull it off, the Barack Obama Campaign refused to kick funds down to help Senate races. His coattails are long but they could have used it a bit more directly.
