Intro to world politics lesson needed

One of you smart people come break it down for me please in small word.

Few years ago was the G8 summit

Then it was the G7

Now today it's G20

WHY???? and can you please tell me who were the 8, 7 and 20

G7 = USA, Britian, France, Japan, Canada, Italy & Germay

G8 = USA, Britian, France, Japan, Canada, Italy, Germay & Russia.

G20 = I'm not sure

For years it was the G7 and after the fall of the Soviet Union, Russia was allowed to join to make it the G8.

Sort of a ridiculous membership however when three of the biggest economic powers (China, India and Brazil) were not included.

I'm not very familiar with the G20 group of countries except that the EU group of countries is counted as one of the twenty members.

tanya the G20 is a meeting of the finance/economics experts from 20 countries. apparently they are meeting to come to a solution on the world financial crisis

G20 is rare and unusual but they forced this one on the USA about 90% of the world's GDP was gathered together in one place this weekend.
