Come in dis mawning and got an email: Our department manager's niece got hit by a truck.

LEHIGH ACRES: Lee County deputies say a young girl was hit by a truck near the intersection of E 12th Street and Joel Boulevard.
Officials on the scene say 13-year-old Gianinna Gallardo was hit by a white pickup truck after getting off of her school bus and she had to be Med-Flighted to Lee Memorial Hospital. At that time, she was breathing but unconscious.
Wednesday night, FHP troopers told us all indications are that this was an accident.
They say when the Gallardo got off of her bus; she waited for it to leave before crossing the street.
"The bus had stopped, the child got out, female, started to walk down, wait for the bus to leave and as the bus was leaving, the child decided to cross the road by herself," said Sergeant Owen Keen of FHP.
He says Gallardo crossed the road behind the bus, instead of in front, and out into traffic where she was hit by the truck.
Keen says the bus driver followed the rules.
"All they are required to do is drop them off at a bus stop, and that's all. The bus driver did and the child did not make the move across the street until after the bus was already leaving," said Keen.
Lehigh resident Debbie Bess knows Joel Boulevard well. Her kids use the bus stop everyday, and everyday she says she worries herself sick.
"They're not safe because it's more rural and there are no lights, there are no sidewalks, and kids have to walk farther to get to their bus stops," she said.
Gallardo is still listed in critical condition.
Troopers are urging students to always cross in front of the school bus while traffic is stopped.
