Some peeps in the break room were going on about this at work this morning re Beyonce's new flick coming out. we got a screener on Monday.

Mercy I wish she'd give it up.

All her (anansi's) flicks are based on singing/dancing she'd only doing what she does 'best'

as for the others, i like J Lo in most of her movies...only thing is her voice/accent get annoyin after a while...it nuh seem like shi can do other accents

Don't get me wrong - some singers <span style="font-weight: bold">CAN</span> actually hold their own quite well on the screen.

Mos Def is under rated, for example. <span style="font-style: italic">(highly recommend &quot;Something The Lord Made&quot</span>

Streisand is a talent on the screen.

Acting can truly be a craft.

En time mi si all smaddi like Jessica Simpson ah call demself 'acting' - even if it <span style="font-weight: bold">IS</span> a role where they're singing - it's kind of insulting.

Just because you can sing, doesn't mean you can act.

Mi agree.. Mos Def is not underated deh man is brilliant... I saw him on stage in a play in London (Sloane Square Theatre, Abe and Booth it was called).. With Jeffery Wright and he was brilliant. He was equal to the task.. After that you see him in films and you realise that the man can hold his own against the best without resort to histrionic like so many rappers... in 16 blocks he was scene stelling against Bruce Willis and David Morse...

Jeffery Wright is a great Actor... Watch the diversity of parts he plays.. (See him in the Shaft and he stole it from Smauel L Jackson...) That Moss Deff could more than hold his own is a credit to him...

Now <span style="font-weight: bold">THAT's</span> acting. That's talent. That's someone who understands that acting can be / is - a craft.

He's quite versatile. He doesn't HAVE to be in a movie where he's signing.

All dem adda likkle foo foo one dem ... cha! Can't hold a candle.

This past weekend I saw a commercial for Beyonce's new flim.

It was painful to watch the previews...I can only imagine the pain inflicted watching the entire movie.

And is a shame cause I love me some Etta James.

That's how this whole conversation started this morning in the kitchen at work.

We put the screener on here and we watched it yesterday - it was just running in the conference room all day.

It just feels like some singers today get it in their heads:

Watch Quntum of Solase and see Jeffry Wright in it and yu si how acting about... The first time I ever saw him was in a TV series The Young Indiana Jones, playing Sidney Bichet...intentense beleivable.... I recall the first film I noticed him in an Ang Lee film ride with the devil... He played a slave in it... The character was complex, confused, proud, conflicted all at the same time.. He conveyed the concepts with gravitas in fewer lines and that is what I recall not the Star Tobey Maguire... That is craft, techique, implication without words...

I understand he will play EZ Rawlings and Moss Deff will be Mouse... I would have cast them the other way round... Mouse at times I beleive was described as pale. Mouse is more complex a charming killer.. My favoite actor playing by my favoirte author, my favoirte characters... Cannot wait..

Now rappers and popular entertainers cannot get that moment and turn it by implication with a lack of words.... That stint on stage in London by Moss Def would have been the intest training...

I believe J. Lo is a good actor. But since oonuu a talk about rappers - wha bout Ludacris???? I was blown away when he did the stint as the killer on Law &amp; Order. Blown away by how good he was...
