Seerus lapse in security a Bombay. An is not like dem neva a try blow up sintin ar nedda ova di last few years. So dem shoulda ready feet it. Expecially since we a chat bout di train station that was already targeted in 2006 and di two most famous hotels in town.

Like how dem a try blow up WTC inna di early 90's an dem a come back an finsih di job layta. Same ting a gwaan an security deh a sleep.

Have you ever been to Mumbai Magic? Have you stayed at that hotel?

You know it's distubing when you turn on the news and hear that places where you've spent some time have been hit by terroist attacks. I did some work out of the Taj Hotel for 3 days in 2000. It was gorgeous, marble floors and stairs, marble pillars. What a contrast to the poverty and decay in Mumbai. See how close it is to the gateway to India. That's why mi frighten till me nearly dead when mi did hear bout de car bombing a while back. It happened shortly after one of my trips:




I didn't stay there. I stayed at the original Taj Tower for about a week. It was owned by Hilton for a while after that and now it's the Trident.






After the bombings at the Gateway to India, we moved our programmes just outside Mumbai to the Renaissance Mumbai at Lake Pawai. The last time I was there was at the start of monsoon season and it took forever to get to the hotel. Customer service standards were exceptional at all 3 locations.

Man oh man my heart goes out to those who got caught up in this.

I been to Bombay airport many times but neva fi stay.

It's a tragedy no matta which pawt it happen. But like yuh seh, if you been in a certain place an it get lick dung then it hit home more.

&quot;The terrorists have used automatic weapons and in some places grenades have been lobbed. The encounters are still going on and we are trying to overpower them,&quot; A.N. Roy, a senior police officer, said.&quot;

'People panicking'

Malay Desai, a correspondent for the Mumbai Mirror, told Al Jazeera: &quot;There are reports of panic on the roads.

'Westerners held hostage'

Hemant Karkare, the chief of the police anti-terrorist squad in the city, was killed during the attacks, Indian television channels reported.

Three members of staff were shot dead at the luxury Taj Mahal hotel in Colaba district, the Press Trust of India reported.
Westerners were also being held by armed men at the venue, according to media reports.

&quot;They wanted anyone with British or American passports,&quot; one witness at the hotel told the NDTV Indian news channel. &quot;They wanted foreigners.&quot;

Kashif Khusro, a journalist for the Times Now newspaper, told Al Jazeera hostages were being held at the city's Trident hotel.

He said: &quot;Army commanders have surrounded the luxury hotel - there are three hostages inside.

Another three people died in a bomb blast in a taxi in the south east of the city.

'Serious attack'

&quot;We were on the 17th floor of the hotel and we used towels to protect ourselves and then ran and got a taxi and then we just drove as far away as we could.&quot;

'Nowhere safe'

Police said there were reports of shootings in other parts of the city, including some in five-star hotels.

A total of 12 explosions shook the northeastern state, six of them ripping through crowded areas in the main city of Guwahati.

Six weeks earlier, the capital New Delhi had been hit by a series of bombs in crowded markets that left more than 20 people dead, the attacks were claimed by a group calling itself the Indian Mujahedeen.

That's why one should always travel with their Jamaican passport and hand that one over if asked for passports.

Yup. This is definitely the hotel where I stayed.



This is kind of bizarre as it was pre-911 when I stayed there but it's so tall and narrow I remember thinking &quot;How would I ever get out if there was an emergency. I was most uncomfortable on the higher floors and asked to be changed to a lower floor. Talk about gut feeling.

About five-six years ago, when some politicians decided to get rid of all the British Colonial names.

So Bombay reverted to Mumbai; Madras to Chennai, Calcutta: Kolkatta; Bangalore: Bangaluru and the train station, Victoria Terminus in Mumbai, is now Chatrapathi Shivaji Terminus. They swapped a British queen for an Indian king!


Maybe they should do the same in Jamaica. King Street: King Tubby Street.
