The onmly time a govenor get to cgoise a senator is whhen one does not complete his term in ofice. This was not the case with Mr Obama,and neither was the govenor in any position to do so at they time when Mr Obama was doing primary elections. I thionk that the govenor got in offui e at the asme time s Mr Obama.
Incidenrally that govenor replaces a previous one that is in prison for illegal activities too.
Any speculation on that??

Otherwise they would not have toi do it illegally. The shortest distance between an intention and the goal, is never a crooked one.

But the last two Democratic Governors had sticky fingers as well and if convicted Blogo would the fourth of the last eight Governors who was convicted of some crime. He would join:

Well, not really, no. This is all in the spirit and tradition of Chicago politics. There, politics is a tough business, and tough doesn't always mean illegal - like when now prez-elect Obama out-maneuvered/knocked off a sitting state senator off the ballot - legally - and took her seat in the state senate in Springfield.

A few years later, Obama would have his a-ss handed to him by a sitting congressman and former black panther Bobby Rush. Rush had ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Chicago, and ambitious Obama, sensing that Rush may be vulnerable, decided to challenge him in the primaries. Wrong calculation. Rush whipped him pretty badly. Rush called Obama, among other things, &quot;a Harvard fool.&quot;

Well, fast forward to 2008, Obama has the last laugh: Rush backed his candidacy for prez and actively supported him (they had made up a long time before that, anyway), and Obama is now the prez-elect.

Chicago is a fascinating place - a riddle wrapped up in an enigma.

As to Blago, the case against him by Patrick Fitzgerald is not a strong one, but he most certainly will be impeached and removed from office. The plan now is to remove the power of appointment (of senators, for example) temporarily, from the office of the governor. Durbin wants an election.

Peters was named deputy governor in December 2006. She was previously Blagojevich's deputy chief of staff for social services and deputy campaign manager.

Lisa Madigan took the action as pressure on the governor intensified to step down. Madigan scheduled a news conference in Chicago Friday morning to discuss the motion.

The move came as the governor prayed with several ministers in his home before heading to his office, telling them he is innocent and will be vindicated &quot;when you hear each chapter completely written,&quot; according to one of the pastors.

The attorney general asked the court for a temporary restraining order or an injunction that prevents Blagojevich from serving as governor. The filing says he is &quot;unable to serve as governor due to disability and should not rightfully continue to hold that office.&quot;

&quot;The pervasive nature and severity of these pending charges disable Mr. Blagojevich from making effective decisions on critical, time-sensitive issues,&quot; the filing said.

The filing asks that the lieutenant governor assume Blagojevich's powers.

It is the first time in Illinois history that such an action was taken. The attorney general is applying a rule that was intended to cover cases where a governor is incapacitated for health reasons. Her motion indicates that his inability to serve because of the scandal is akin to a debilitating health issue.

The motion essentially declares that Blagojevich's legal problems amount to a disability that would not be resolved until he is either cleared of the charges or leaves office.

CHICAGO — Businessmen with ties to both Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich and U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson discussed raising $1 million for Blagojevich to help persuade him to appoint Jackson to President-elect Barack Obama's vacant Senate seat, according to a published report.

Citing unnamed sources, the Chicago Tribune reports in a story for Friday's editions that businessman Raghuveer Nayak and Blagojevich aide Rajinder Bedi told attendees at an Oct. 31 meeting that they needed to raise the money for the governor to ensure Jackson's appointment.

&quot;Raghu said he needed to raise a million for Rod to make sure Jesse got the seat,&quot; an unidentified source who attended the meeting told the Tribune. Blagojevich also attended the meeting, which was sponsored by Nayak, an Oak Brook businessman.

A message left at a listing for Raghuveer Nayak in Oak Brook was not immediately returned early Friday. No published listing for Bedi could be found.

Blagojevich was arrested Tuesday on federal corruption charges that allege, among other things, a brazen scheme to put Obama's vacant Senate seat up for sale.

According to the FBI complaint, the Oct. 31 meeting took place the same day federal prosecutors intercepted a conversation in which Blagojevich claims he'd been approached by a representative for an unnamed &quot;Senate Candidate 5&quot; who offered cash in exchange for the Senate seat.

On Wednesday, it was revealed that Jackson was the candidate.

&quot;We were approached 'pay to play,'&quot; Blagojevich said in the call. The candidate would raise $500,000 for Blagojevich, and an emissary would raise an additional $1 million, according to the conversation.

Jackson spokesman Rick Bryant told the Tribune that while Jackson discussed the Senate seat with Nayak, he never asked him to do anything.

Nayak, 54, has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Blagojevich and is also close to the Jackson family. Bedi has also been a Blagojevich fundraiser.

The Oct. 31 meeting led to a Blagojevich fundraiser held Saturday that was co-sponsored by Nayak. The governor attended, as did Jackson's brother Jonathan, who went into business with Nayak several years ago, according to the newspaper report.

Two days later, Jackson met with Blagojevich to discuss the Senate seat.
