OIL, WATER TO STOP CRIME
While many Jamaicans are at their wits' end trying to coin measures to curb the nation's crime problem, at least one man says he has the answer. That solution is one of water and oil.
Godson, a Christian man born in England to Jamaican parents, says he has the "God-given gift" to rid violence-plagued communities of their ills through using a mixture of consecrated water and oil (olive or vegetable).
"For any community that is plagued by violence, I can go in there and the crime would immediately subside through prayer. I can use water as a medium to contain the power in that community and overcome the violence," he said. "There is a spiritual upheaval that is causing the physical one, so you have to overcome the spiritual to subdue the physical."
Chuckle at his 'gift'
Godson explained that while many may chuckle at his 'gift' or become sceptical, it is one that has been tested and proven. "When Mountain View used to be hot, about 2007, I went there and the crime went down after that. I went to Jacques Road and Jarrett Lane," he claimed.
When asked, however, if any of the communities he visited had ever returned to a violent state after his visit, he responded: "I have never had that experience."
Boltesha, a resident of Mountain View Avenue, had high praises for Godson's work. "Him come out here late last year and pray and keep prayer meeting and the gunshot dem did cease, still," she said. "We sign peace treaty after dat and everything calm now."
The resident said she believed that it was Godson's 'visit' that brought peace to the community, a viewed shared by others as well. The Mountain View police say that the area has been relatively calm since late last year, but could not say if it was due to Godson.
Answer to crime is simple
The Christian man says his answer to crime is simple. Upon visiting a community, he offers two prayers: the first for the consecration of the water and the second for the power to overcome. After this, the oil and the water are mixed and used to anoint the community. "I mix the oil and water because the water will evaporate, but the oil is more lasting, so the power will be there," Godson explained. "The power in the oil will change the gunmen when they pass over it, so I sprinkle it on the ground."
Godson has been exercising his gift for the last 15 years. Many have misinterpreted his work as obeah. He, however, says he only deals with "the Almighty God". Additionally, he says that there is no cost attached to his visit. He says the community would only have to invite him and provide the needed gospel music as he carries out the task.
Communities who believe they need a visit from Godson can contact him at 360-4369.
