the smithsonian thing is fine...people are free to gain knowledge about whatever subject interests them;

i think rastafari has evolved in many ways in jamaica...unfortunately many jamaicans' attitudes have not evolved;
i can't go into personal stories (i have many) about some jamaicans attitudes toward i and i...but obviously rastafari &amp; colonial mentality not really suited to co-exist in harmony

I don't know about the US, but I have seen Ras and people with locks doing jobs in the UK that they wouldn't stand a chance of getting in Jamaica.

just like selassie more respected by some jamaicans than by many ethiopians, so is rastafari more respected by non-jamaicans than jamaicans...

you see people who are close to someone/something can never really fully appreciate them until MAYBE long after they are gone;
you heard the saying familiarity breed contempt...yes, so true;

also jamaica is still very backward in terms of a national identity...most people there still wish to emulate america in terms of values and appearance...straightened hair is still preferred over locks in jamaica. imo the brainwashing has gotten worse from the time i was a yute;

i just give thanks that i and i was able to learn a different way than to just mimic america and whiteness even though you are black

There is no dissing in what I said but rather great respect. I was blown away by the courage this man had when you consider what he went through to reach that stage. &quot;Went through&quot; also self-inflicted as well, where you think that people will not hire you based on your appearance. This man had nothing but respect from me for how he stood for what he believed in and opened the door to focus on his true abilities. He won respect from all and was an inspiration to me back then.

I have explained that to you cause you dont seem to understand. Being black oppression, being rasta and black double oppression and not to bow to cutting his maine I respect him.
I did not call him the Babylon ideal but he is an ideal individual in that he stands up for what he believes in and not bow down to the system.
