In the first place, what is religion doing at a secular event like the inauguration, anyway? When was the last time a president-elect took the oath of office placing his hands on the US Constitution which actually governs the country, as opposed to the Bible which does not? </div></div>

BTW, the words &quot;under God&quot; in the pledge of allegiance was inserted during the 1950s for purely political purposes during the McCarthy 'reign of terror.' It was not a part of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, from which the pledge comes.
