Lets get back to the original meaning of christmas..... promisious consumerism, over indulgence, getting enough plastic to drown a small country, unwanted presents, fights with the inlaws, bad tv programs about saving the world with a good deed not forgeting a couple days off work.. forget the unconfirmed nonsense about some jacket pickni being born some where in the middle east... yeah if unno did all dat spirutal unno would be doing missionary work in Saudi Arabia or china...

Now that you have vented...I have a question.

Could it be possible that the concept of <span style="font-style: italic">Santa</span> might be one of the best childlike ways to teach little children ...and adults...about unconditional love?

Here we have a symbol of a kind gift-giver, bringing lots of goodies for folks whether they have been naughty or nice...without expecting anything in return. He shops, he packages and he delivers...for nothing in return.

And even after all these years of leading by example, Santa must be disappointed that there are still many who have yet to learn how to love, unconditionally...without expecting anything in return.

Maybe?

shandra mi cant agree with that concept because essentially telling the children that <span style="text-decoration: line-through">satan</span> satan bring them present and we all know say him dont exist is a dyam lie. Then no wonder why they question everything else we teach dem including the very existence of God. and next thing we expect them to not lie after we lie to them.

Wel, if your child is mature enough, don't use the Santa concept.

Just factor in the point in your reasoning that there is such a thing as being developmentally ready and some children are just not ready. Santa's just a symbol.

Look at how many things you understand much better now than when you were emotionally or intellectually not ready.

nope, there is nothing good that can come out of a lie.

my parents never lied to me, from day one mi kno is who do de shopping an wrap de presents etc. Definitely didn't need the lie to learn bout unconditional live.
Once you've lied, you've put a condition pan de love.

C'mon, there's such a thing as being too literal and too serious.

People do not mature at the same rate.

The bottomline of Christmas is unconditional love...something that has been lost on many people because of selfishness and a total lack of concern for anyone or anything outside of their interest.

Jesus came into the world as <span style="font-weight: bold">a gift</span> of unconditional love to our stone cold hearts and from what I can read, see or hear, far too many humans have been resisting the exploration of such a love.

Children cannot theorize as adults so they have to be given lessons in love using symbols and concepts and whatever else... in small doses... to match their level of understanding.

following this line of thought about lies, is there proof that God exists? I think there may be more proof of Santa's existence vs Gods

i agree. the power of story and parable is also relevant to adults. christ was the master at the use of symbols to give lessons - indeed, some may say that christ himself is the epitome of symbolism.

I totally disagree. We make into that.
The true bottomline of christmas is to hoodwink ppl and have them spend out any money they have saved and stop them from getting over. Not even the Jesus many of us claim to follow would be into any of this. I don't know how we rationalise this.
