Rand Memorial Hospital in the Bahamas tells TMZ the son of John Travolta died today.

We're told 16-year-old Jett was vacationing with Travolta and wife Kelly Preston. We do not know the circumstances of his death.

There have been reports that Jett was autistic, though Travolta has denied it, saying he suffers from Kawasaki Syndrome, a condition which often leads to heart disease.

UPDATE: 4:00 PM ET -- Travolta's attorney Michael Ossi says Jett suffered a seizure at his family's vacation home at the Old Bahama Bay Hotel on Grand Bahama Island. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he died on scene.

seems their belief in Scientology is being scrutinized (blamed) for Jett's death.

Apparently the Travolta's found out he may have autism and tried to ignore it because their belief in Scientology degrades mentally challenged people.

There was talk of taking the Travoltas to court for the kid's sake way before this.. Seems Mass Travolta may have some court battle wid some children's protection group in the near future.

For the time being, Kawasaki Disease is getting its sad moment in the sun after the death of Jett Travolta, son of John Travolta and Kelly Preston. As the Travolta family mourns and tries to figure out how their son really died, the press and gossipers are doing their own research. This has put Kawasaki Disease, and how it affected Jett and other kids like him, into the limelight.

Kawasaki Disease is an illness with an unknown case, and with origins in Japan. In 1967, Dr. Tomisaku Kawasaki first diagnosed the disease. It primarily affects children under five-years-old, and can cause severe aneurysms and blocks in a child's blood vessels. As a result, these aneurysms can cause heart attacks and seizures.

To be diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease, a child would have a high fever for more than five days, red lips and a red tongue, swelling of feet and hands, bloodshot eyes, rashes and/or swollen glands.

According to the Travoltas, Jett Travolta was diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease when he was two-years-old. Jett Travolta was a very rare case of a child getting Kawasaki Disease in the United States, as the disease primarily affects kids that are Japanese, or of Korean descent.

The death of Jett Travolta leads many to wonder how Kawasaki Disease could have played a role, if it did at all. Less than 1% of diagnosed children die as a direct result of Kawasaki Disease, and the condition is very treatable.

Reports were that Jett Travolta struck his head on a bathtub while on vacation with his parents in the Bahamas. The speculation is over whether the child had a seizure beforehand, and whether it was caused by Kawasaki Disease.

Skeptics have theorized that Jett Travolta was really an autistic child. Further speculation is that Travolta and Preston denied their son was autistic because their religion, Scientology, does not recognize autism. Scientologists also reject using drugs to treat mental conditions.

About one in four autistic individuals begin to have seizures during puberty. The exact reason for the onset of seizures is not known, but it is likely that the seizure activity may be due to hormonal changes in the body. NASSAU (Reuters) - An autopsy is planned in the Bahamas for actor John Travolta's 16-year-old son, who died suddenly during a vacation at his family's resort home, authorities said. Police Superintendent Basil Rahming said on Saturday the autopsy, which could determine the cause of death of Jett Travolta, was likely to be performed on Monday.

Did Travolta hire his unqualified gay lover to care for an ill child, who then died on the faux nanny's watch? If so, you won't read about it in the trashiest of Internet tabloids.

A TMZ.com story on the death of John Travolta's 16-year-old son, Jett, mentioned that he was found by <span style="color: #FF6666"><span style="font-weight: bold">family nanny Jeff Kathrein — but it didn't run a famous picture of Travolta kissing Kathrein.</span> </span>

In 2006, Kathrein and Travolta were caught by paparazzi locking lips. The Travolta camp's official explanation: Why, John kisses everyone like that! But in the wake of a teenager's death, no one stopped to ask who the man who found him dead is, and what his relationship was to the kid's father.

Kathrein is one of the Travolta family's two nannies. On his website, he describes himself as a photographer; he mostly lenses weddings. His qualifications for childcare are unclear, other than being a Scientologist like Jett's parents, John Travolta and Kelly Preston. Kathrein's wife, Ana, is also a Scientologist. (Some Scientology critics believe the church forces gays and lesbians to stay in the closet and pursue heterosexual relationships, frequently citing Travolta and Preston's marriage.)

Why the deference from TMZ, which is usually the standards-bearer of standards-lowering? Much remains mysterious about Jett Travolta's tragic death — and impolite questions ought to be asked. Isn't that what celebrity tabloids are good for?

Take the family's unchallenged assertion that he suffered from Kawasaki disease, an immunological syndrome which causes painful inflammation, after exposure to carpet-cleaning chemicals, and that he died after hitting his head after suffering a related seizure. At least one doctor disputes the notion, saying that there's no link between chemical exposure and Kawasaki disease and that it does not cause seizures.

Jett may have suffered instead from autism which went untreated, because of Travolta's adherence to the cultlike religion of Scientology and the bizarre beliefs about mental illness that go with it. And if Travolta hired Kathrein for reasons other than the best interests of his child? That only makes it worse.
