.. spin outs ??..

motor vehicle experts.. tell whats the logic behind cars spining out.
Mi do understand the basics, and have a fair idea as to why an event mi had the other day happened, but mi curious.

In particular, is it more likly for a rear wheel drive vehicle to skid out (on ice/slipery roads) than a front wheeel? If so why?
Mi guessing the obvious (the traction is on the rear)

As the weather gets more Canadiany.. what are the precautions we can take to avoid spin outs.
As mi said, mi pulled one the other day, and a just the grace a God prevent a disaster.

what was the circumstance of your spin? was it under breaking? or jus conering

i have had 3 first one was going around a bend on icy road car jus slide round in slow motion ..i think speed was the cause of that one ( was first winter here) jus goin a little too fast for the road (was doing about 30km only) second one was came over a slight raise and road was blocked ..applied brake sharply car jus spin(road was snowy) third one was on the highway doing about 80km one lane was dry one clear the other was slushy go to change lanes and wheel catch on the slush and jus turn the car..end up tail down in the ditch.

Generally speaking since your engine is in the front, and it's the heaviest thing in the car, your CG (Centre of Gravity) is located forward. This makes the back wheels spin out for two reasons. First, there's less weight on the back so there's less traction. And second, the centre of mass is forward and the car will spin around its centre of mass.

So what you could do is load up the trunk with weight to shift the CG towards the centre of the vehicle. But that's not really practical and you'll burn more gas.
Just drive slower, and avoid living in Canada.

And if you are driving a pick up truck, especially a small one it seems that the chances are worse.

Sunday afternoon I came across an upside down small pick up on a bridge. Monday at 7am I saw another small truck spin out right in front of me. It barely missed it hitting me. It finally crashed into the center guardrail and came to a stop.

Excessive speed on slippery roads. It makes for scary driving conditions for those of us that take caution and slow down only to be passed like we're standing still. The out of control vehicle becomes much like a weapon at that point.

2.. take transit especially if u not used to the conditions of the road .... mi wish more people would and stop hold up the traffic pon the road.

i agree wid you but govt backward in canada .instead of providing a good service to attract ppl dem a wait for ppl to start tek it to den look at providing service.

as bad as it be out here and I have friends that drive that are better off driving than taking the bus because of where they live or nature of there work but nuff of the one them that work where mi work should take transit ... is the one part that not too bad ... parking expensive the place jam up nuff and as them say snow in the forcast it take 1 hr to do the 5 min loop.

If this city had a better LRT system, it would make many ppl's lives easier. But they are working on it at least.

drive slow ..
plenty of space between car ahead ..
no sudden movements ..
look ahead ..
anticipate ..
plan for hazard/emergency ..
give yourself room ..


a car in front of me this morning ..
just slid slowly into the next lane ..
we were braking for a stop light ..
and this was a frontwheel drive car ..
mine is rear wheel drive ..

the driver almost spun it on the correction counter steer ..

does pumping your breaks on your own help? i read one time that it doesn't because the car is still going forward as you're braking. but i still do it because mi fraid mi brake dem lock and mi slide.

the theory behind that is that if you press and realease fast enuff the wheels wont lock and youw ill still slow down ..but you have to have a lot of room for braking this way
