The premise being that &quot;elected office experience&quot; is a prerequisite for being a senator? What prior elected office did the current occupant of that seat hold? Sounds to me he is looking for an excuse not to appoint her.

It is, however, his prerogative to appoint whomever he choses.

caroline CAN be articulate, however, she is not used to the media frenzy that comes along with being an elected official, and so she will tend to stumble over herself a bit.

If I was her, I would start branding myself with a clear specific message, and anytime dem interview me a juss dat mi wouldan deh pan, along with enuff knowledge of current events of the day.

I cannot believe that I am agreeing with Blue. Heard her on radio and TV a couple weeks ago - and she is certainly <span style="font-weight: bold">NO PALIN</span> but she was ahhmmmmg and was not clear and concise with her answers. I expected a better interview from her.. AND the Kennedys have already served in New York. This same seat was held by her Uncle Robert.

Now, for people who say, &quot;how is she qualified to run for the senate?&quot; Well, the important thing is that the person brings some accomplishment to the office. She has more than done so. She is the author of a well-received book on the 1st Amendment, she is an attorney, has done significant consulting work for the NYC public schools, she is the president of the Kennedy Foundation, and is a philanthropist. It sounds silly to say she isn't qualified to run. It's not like she was sitting around for the past 50 years doing nothing.

She can give effective representation to NYers in the US Senate. Now, the question of political dynasty is a separate one, and NY has a tradition there: the Roosevelts, Cuomos, and now, possibly, the Kennedys. </div></div>

yes, and also politics is about contacts and connections, and she can pick up the phone and get Obama to take her call, not all the other 12 candidates Gov Patterson has to pick through can do that.

No but she is getting a fair share of scrutiny and ridicule.
Of the 15 or so candidates for the job are their names out there?
When or when last have they done an outtaview?

I think they are better-qualified persons than her but I think she is very good fit as a Senator from New York.
I think she would be better in her Grandfather's old job as Ambassador to the Court of St. James, or Ireland.
Better yet if Jamaica's wants to raise its profile it should immediately start lobbying for Caroline Bouvier Kennedy Schlossberg to be USA Ambassador to Jamaica.

Yes, this is in fact the case. The years of citizenship and residency I stated backwards. Haven't looked at Article 1 in a long time.

In Clinton's case, I remember she was called a &quot;carpet bagger&quot; which, while true, was irrelevant from a legal point of view. That cannot be said, however, of Caroline Kennedy.
