The financial woes plaguing the national carrier are about to get worse due to the global financial crisis.
RJR News understands that the management of Air Jamaica is now considering several cost cutting measures to keep the airline afloat.
The measures include <span style="font-weight: bold">a redundancy programme involving some of its pilots.</span>

A source told our News Centre that<span style="font-weight: bold"> the airline could cut some of its pilots as early as this week.</span>

<span style="font-weight: bold">But</span> Bruce Nobles, Chief Executive Officer of Air Jamaica was guarded in dismissing claims of the possible lay offs this week.
"We're looking at a very difficult period going forward and I'm sure hotels and other tourist related businesses are saying the same thing, that the traffic is fairly soft and we're looking at ways to try and match our revenues with our expenses ... would that translate into redundancies, I don't know yet," he said.
Mr. Nobles is contending that the airline is weathering tough economic times facing the industry
