Pilots at the national airline, Air Jamaica, are yet to be told how many of them will be sacked as a meeting with the management of the airline failed to get off the ground yesterday.

President of the Jamaica Airline Pilots Association, Russell Capelton, says the meeting was postponed by the airline's chief executive officer, Bruce Noble.

According to Capelton, as many as 80 of the 151 pilots employed by Air Jamaica could be let go depending on the redundancy procedure the airline employs.

The new CEO claim seh di airline's on-time performance is 99% ever since him take office. Further reading shows when he means on time, he means less than an hour late! (US standard for on time is 14 min late) My airline's standard for on time is 3 min late or less to be considered on time.

So if the flight is going to be real late, in order to comply with the new CEOs directive for on time performance, by canceling a flight, you prevent it from being late otherwise.
Cause a canceled flith cyaan late.

Yesterdays big meeting was canceled too, so we shall wait and see how many FO's fill get laid off and how many captains will be downgraded to FO.

so how many planes they plannimg to ground?..i hear there are significant buy outs on the leases (if they talking about 80 pilots they planning to cut the fleet in half?)

She was slated to fly out from Baltimore yesterday – Air Jamaica – 8am flite.

Gets to airport and before she even properly cues up, they announce the flight has been canceled.

Why?

Another 2 hour’s delay for that answer – mechanical problems.

They rebook her on American for 2:45pm to Miami – change planes – connect to a 7:30pm flight to Mobay.

I’m thankful to the sweet Lord she landed safely and got home thru the door a little after midnite but mercy!

That’s a <span style="font-weight: bold">LOT </span>of drama on this little old lady.

I feel your pain....my sis did suppose to leave JA last Sundey on the 6:30pm flight out of Kingston....lets just say she didn't get home until 4 hay hem Po ting tyad so till....wus she did havi get up fe work at 6 hay hem an yuh know who did havi deh back ah har pee pee cluck cluck

One a mi bredrin already get the wuk at Etihad, but him don't expect to get a course date till spring. He's only been at AirJ a couple of years so he bound to get cut.

They are overstaffed now, so they can afford to lose some pilots without cutting planes. (Remember how under PNP they were getting B757s and B737, pilots went to train on the new planes, then JLP said no lets not, and now those said pilots had to train back on the A320s and are back) But Surely they are not going to cut 80. I'm thinking more like 20.

I can't find any sympathy in my heart for them.

3 weeks before Christmas, my cousin flies from Kingston going back home to Cali.

Mid air - yes, I said <span style="font-weight: bold">MID AIR</span> - they diverted to Dallas to pick up some stranded Air J passengers left over from a different flight from the day before.

I mean ...

No man. That's not why. Is that what they told the passengers?
There are no flights to Dallas, so there cound't have been any stranded passengers there.

Most likely the reason for the diversion is that with the strong headwinds in the winter the aircraft doesn't have the range to reach LA. Sometimes they tow the plane out to the runway in MoBay before they start the engines, to save fuel.

Normally the plan is to land in Phoenix if they can't make it to LAX. But maybe they couldn't make it to Phoenix either that day. This happens a few times every winter.

They got the A319 for that route, but it came from Skybus, which cram so much seat inna di plane that AirJ can't use it on anything longer than Miami or people would riot.

But Magix - she and her husband said that indeed, they pickep up passengers and took off again.

The whole thing kept them in Dallas about 2.5 hours before taking off again. They said about 11 people got on.

There's <span style="font-weight: bold">LITTLE</span> I wont put past Air J - many airlines for that matter.

This summer when my Mom came up, she left Mobay 3 hours late on Air J to Baltimore. Instead, they flew to Philly.

They took the passengers by bus FROM Philly to Baltimore.

Come ON! man!!

OMG Gen - it was insane.

This morning when I talked to my Mom, who is a <span style="font-weight: bold">DIE HARD</span> - totally die hard Air J customer - for the first in my life, she's said she don't think she'll fly them again.

Even when she's to come back here from this trip now, she's not coming back on Air J. Miss Thing says she's going to shell out the money for a new ticket on another carrier.
